3 tips from a sleep specialist in Avignon
The National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance publishes every year in partnership with the MGEN a survey on the sleep of the French. This year the survey focused on the sleep of children and their parents. The survey made it possible in particular to show, among other things, that children have a sleep disorder a little more often (1/3 against 24%) when the parents have one.
Dr Henri Marson is a pulmonologist at the Rhône Durance clinic in Avignon. It is sleep disorder specialist and he gives 3 tips for a better night’s sleep.
“Remember when you used little ones you must have a ritual: a story read by the parents, a visit to the toilet, a comforter. As an adult, you must have rituals, it’s important” explains Dr. Henri Marson. 20 to 30 minutes before going to bed, you should introduce yourself a ritual to disconnect little by little of your day and have better sleep.
The pulmonologist also insists on the importance that sleep regularity. That is, go to bed at the same times on weekdays and try to get the same number of hours of sleep every day. Shifting your sleep hours too much on weekends can also be dangerous and cause irregularity in sleep.
“Screens disturb the sleep of children and their parents” alerts Dr. Marson. For children he recommends do not expose them to screens after 6 p.m. while for parents, it is advisable to stop using phones, computers and TVs two hours before going to bed.
And finally, the pulmonologist insists: when you have sleep disorders that last you have to consult. “Occasional insomnia can happen, but as soon as you have several insomnias a week and it lasts for several months, you have to see a doctor,” he says. Dr. Henri Marson recalls that sleep disorders can be pathologies and that in addition to having a bad day when you sleep badly, you can also contract other health problems such as cardiovascular problems or depression.
