Presidential: Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting in Paris on April 2
A “gathering”, not a “meeting”, while the organization of large “festive” events seems to clash with the national and international context, marked by the war in Ukraine. But whatever the term used, the result is the same: Emmanuel Macron will hold a large public meeting on Saturday April 2 in Paris, eight days before the presidential election.
The announcement was made official by a tweet from Emmanuel Macron’s campaign team. If it is possible now to register for this “gathering” which will begin at 2:30 p.m., the place in Paris has not yet been specified. It could be one of the large multipurpose halls in Paris capable of accommodating thousands of people, like those of Bercy or the Arena La Défense in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), according to AFP.
Presentation of the program Thursday
Until then, the president-candidate favors the format of “conversations”, that is to say public meetings with a limited number of invitations, as he had experienced during the “big debate” in 2019. After Poissy (Yvelines) on March 7, a second trip is scheduled for Friday in Pau, in the stronghold of his ally François Bayrou, president of the MoDem.
Before that, Emmanuel Macron will unveil this Thursday his program for his possible second five-year term. He must present his main proposals at a press conference in Aubervilliers, in the Paris region. The candidate should answer questions from journalists, which could last several hours according to his team.
Calendar problems
From the start, Emmanuel Macron has been torn between his obligations as head of state occupied by the war at the gates of Europe and the need for the candidate to campaign. While he is accused by the opposition of trying to “step over” the campaign by taking advantage of his status as President of the Republic, his relatives assure that Emmanuel Macron will campaign whenever his agenda allows him.
Thus, while his candidacy has been announced several times as imminent, Emmanuel Macron waited until the last minute to declare himself officially, and this in a very sober “Letter to the French”. While the idea of a meeting in Marseilles in the wake of this declaration had been raised, it was finally abandoned.
