University helps students from Ukraine
education
There are currently 55 students from Ukraine enrolled at the University of Salzburg. The university tries to help them as best it can, for example by waiving tuition fees, but also by offering psychological support.
On Monday, the university invited students from Ukraine to an information event in Unipark Nonntal. Every second student came from Ukraine.
Among other things, the possibility of support from psychological student counseling was presented. Those affected can get advice, support and, depending on capacity, psychotherapy, says the head of the psychological student counseling service, Bibiane Freudenberger-Rendl.
Tuition fees for summer semester waived
2.5 million Ukrainians are currently fleeing, the students often do not know where their relatives are, how things will continue in humanitarian terms, but also how things will continue economically. The federal government has therefore waived the tuition fees for the summer semester that has just started, explains Rector Hendrik Lehnert.
student body helps
The student union provides money directly for Ukrainian students. Up to 1000 euros in emergency aid, plus other support such as the social grant, says Patrick Brandauer, social officer for the student union.
The offers of help for the students from the Ukraine are initially valid for the summer semester that has just started.
55 students from Russia in Salzburg
55 students from the Ukraine face about the same number of students from Russia at the University of Salzburg. Rector Hendrik Lehnert will also talk to them: “We know that this will not be that easy and that Russian students have difficulties when they speak their minds openly and freely.”
