Risk of injury at weddings: old chair
politics
Due to the risk of injury for wedding guests and bridal couples, the historic armchairs in the world-famous Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace are now being restored or repaired. The city of Salzburg shelled out more than 30,000 euros for this.
The white, velvet-covered gems are very old and belong to the Habsburgs. It’s about 25 pieces in total. 15 were loaned by the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft, ten belong to the city of Salzburg.
“Weddings have left their mark”
They have been used in the Marble Hall since the 1980s – at up to 1,200 weddings a year. That leaves traces, says Franz Schefbaumer, head of the registry office of the city of Salzburg. He speaks of “dangers” around yes words and exchanging rings: “Unfortunately, the many weddings have left their mark. The fabric was badly damaged, but so was the wood itself. And we want to rule out any danger for the wedding guests and the bridal couple.”
When they get off the hook
This means possible accidents, including accidents when chairs collapse or come apart.
According to the official report, the restoration is technically justified. A restorer and a wallpaper hanger or upholsterer should take over the specialist work. The project costs a total of 31,668 euros and 32 cents. It has already been approved by city officials.
