Congress marking 375 years of the Patroness of Portugal
From the 24th to the 26th of March, the Sanctuary of Fatima will host the International Congress “Woman, Mother and Queen”, organized by the Institute of the Patron Saint of Portugal for the Studies of Mariology (IPPEM), in collaboration with the Sanctuary.
2021, the year in which Portugal will initially spend 375 years from Nossa Senhora da Conceição as Padro Portugal, the coronation congress will be postponed due to the circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Intending to be a comprehensive forum, in terms of themes, visions and approaches, it will present issues related to the studies of Mariology, Theology and the Bible; of Popular Religiosity; of the Associations of the Faithful and of the Religious Orders (impulses in many cases, of the devotion to the Virgin Mary); of Canon Law; Anthropology and Sociology, Art and Church History; of the History of Portugal and even of Universal History.
According to the President of the Congress, the event “takes Our Lady as a figure to be addressed, from the 375th anniversary of the coronation of the Immaculate Conception as Patroness of Portugal by King D. João IV”.
In statements to RenaissanceMarco Daniel Duarte revealed that “through various areas of study, approach the figure of Maria”.
It will be an “interdisciplinary Congress in which areas such as theology, biblical foundations, parenetic discourses and history will be covered”. In approach, it will be a way of how different peoples saw Our Lady, particularly those of the Iberian Peninsula and those of the “New World, that is, Central and Spanish America”.
