Spotted Wing Drosophila
The spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), is a polyphagous pest that attacks several hosts and has a high power of dissemination. This pest causes in many cultures, with particular incidence in small fruits, explains the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Center (DRAP Centro).
It was described in 1931 by Matumura and the first havoc written in Japan. Its expansion to the American and European continents took place simultaneously in 2008, followed by strong dispersion across both continents.
In Portugal, the first detections took place in 2012, in the Odemira region. In 2013, its presence in the Center region was registered in persimmon and blueberry. The year 20 was marked by several years in the main production of small fruits and, from the initial conditions and without the development of the pest, which were defined for the sector that were large.
