″If Portugal fails the World Cup it will have a big impact″
Essay
Statements by Bruno Fernandes in an interview with Canal 11. Portugal will face Turkey on March 24, in the play-off for qualifying for the World Cup. The winner will face Italy or North Macedonia in a final.
Defeat with Serbia in Luz :: “Obviously marked is once again, but that we know we have no more world opportunity.”
Feeling: “We know what it means for us to be at the World Cup. We only have one present and I would like to be present for another one this year. If we don’t make it it would be a very big regret.”
What needs to change: “The most important thing is to focus on the ‘we’, to leave all the ‘I’ aside, to realize that something greater than us is at stake now. To understand that it is a delicate moment for everyone and only if we all row for the same side we will qualify for the World Cup.”
First Turkey, then North Macedonia or Italy. Emotions management: “It’s not difficult because we know we can’t win this game [com a Turquia] we will not have the opportunity to face Italy or Macedonia. Turkey is a great team, with great talents, we know they will cause us difficulties.”
Responsibility: “We won the European, the League of Nations, we were at the 2006 World Cup fighting for third place. If Portugal stays out that will have a big impact and we will be the generation that has not been to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.”
