Loup Uberto Summary of a set of attempts, on various materials: Mobile phones, percussion, short-circuited radio transistors, computer limiters, clarinet, medieval and popular songs from northern Italy. the illegible fable is incomplete and silent, it adopts the same poverty as the old tale, it uses the same power of image, the abundant repertoire of visions offered by an undressed figure. We are talking here about the stripped, craftsman tale, faithful to the crudeness of reality, which is found in popular and medieval songs prior to its absorption by literature. When the morality of the literary tale is only a process of fattening the tale through discourse, the popular tale is on the contrary a view offered on the horizon of silence. Two living spheres have produced their clans of storytellers; in the archaic space of song coexist and inter-contaminate the peasant (sedentary tale, territorial tale) and the sailor (wandering tale, foreign tale). A third figure, the craftsman, merges these two narratives in the university of the tale. In this tale without morals, the simple form of the speech does not aim to convince, knows no target, it is a dry narration, an object without destination that each listener will translate at his ease. The dry, collected and chaste form of the tale commends the story to memory. The tale is silent, abstaining from saying, it holds in suspense by the tooling of silences and voids. Music with indecisive ways, silent writing, white images, noises and songs. Along with Alexis Vinéïs, Lucas Ravinale and Jean-Philippe Curtelin, Loup Uberto is also one of Bégayer’s four wise men (saints, brigands, characters from Rosselini who make noise), explores the traditional melodies of northern Italy, records curious sound documents – “raw” Cuban music, Eastern European travel diaries, Kurdish songs from Syria -, initiates gestures for French song with the label Le Saule, questions the notion of gaze and its fiction, the asperities of language, documents exile and wandering through sound testimonies, writings and photographs. ‘Racconto artigiano’, the artisan tale, is inspired by Experience and Poverty by Walter Benjamin, where the author comments on the assembly of the repertoire of popular fables; It is the epitome of numerous attempts on various materials: mobile phones, percussion, short-circuited radio transistors, computer limiters, clarinet, medieval and popular songs from northern Italy, sound collages. Recorded in the reformed church of Mens-en-Trièves, a village at the foot of the Obiou chain and digging towards the eastern slope of the Vercors, the disc follows some three or four years of research, the story of a set of experiences, thus itself a sort of document, a repertoire of sketches delivered as they are, completely raw and rendered disturbing by their dryness, just as the popular tale -abstaining from speaking- is a view offered on the horizon of silence.
