FCB will contest the first home win under Guillermo Abascal
A week ago, FCB were able to celebrate three points for the first time since the change of coach. The 2-0 away win against Lugano was hugely important. In the event of a defeat, FCB would be in the table been overtaken by the Ticino. Now the Basler are tied with YB in third place. Because FCZ blundered against St. Gallen on Saturday, FCB could catch up with Zurich again with a win in the table.
Formative Geneva
Interim coach Guillermo Abascal and his team will now build on the win against Lugano. In his first home game, after catching up, there was only a 2-2 draw against St. Gallen. Today, against Servette Geneva, the first home win should become a fact.
With Servette, however, a playfully strong team is visiting St. Jakob-Park today. The fifth in the table has been convincing in the last two games and beat the reigning champions YB 1-0. And a week ago, Geneva won 4-2 away against GC.
Personal situation
FCB can play at home today with a broad chest. There was only a 2-2 draw away in Geneva at the last meeting on December 12, 2021. In the first direct duel of the season on August 8, 2021, FCB won 5-1.
Only Michael Lang, after the Marseille game, will probably play today’s game against Servette due to illness. Valentin Stocker is part of the squad again. The captain had skipped the trip to France because of the birth of his twins. Neither team is suspended.
For YB and Basel the door opens a crack
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against St. Gallen, FC Zurich’s first defeat after 17 games, gives the Young Boys and FC Basel some hope again in the Super League. The two pursuers could reduce the gap to FCZ to twelve points each on Sunday.
From 2.15 p.m. onwards, the Young Boys will play away against the suspended teammates Lausanne-Sport, while the Basel team will play against Servette at 4.30 p.m. in St.-Jakob-Park.
Sunday’s third game is significant for the lower part of the table. Lucerne will play against the Grasshoppers at home from 4.30 p.m. With a win, the central Swiss would come within five points of GC.
The game between FC Basel and Servette Geneva will kick off on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. in St. Jakob-Park. From then on, YOU can follow the game with us online with the live ticker.
