Villach and Vienna equalize!
VSV equalizes in the second game of the quarterfinal series against Ljubljana with a 4:3 victory. After a brawl at the beginning of the final third, Chris Collins from Villach has to go to the hospital right on the ice after treatment.
The second encounter in the quarterfinals between EC VSV and Ljubljana started with clearly better chances for the Slovenes. After just under four minutes of play, number 12 of the hosts that evening, Nik Simsic, already made it 1-0. Despite the significantly better performance of the men in the green jerseys, Villach defender Brett Fleming equalized shortly before the end of the first period.
With a confident defense of their own third, the Slovenians began to take the lead again in the next 20 minutes with more opportunities. Now the Carinthian was able to turn the game around and change the score to 1:3 from the perspective of the home team thanks to two consecutive goals from Anton Karlsson. Towards the end of the second period, Ljubljana got back into the game and started shooting more on goal. One of these led to 2: 3 by Guillaume Leclerc.
The third period began with penalties for both sides after a fight that didn’t end well for Chris Collins. After minutes of treatment directly on the ice, the Villach center was carried away on a stretcher. After the moment of shock, the Slovenians continue with the fifth power play of the evening. Rok Kapel found space in the long corner to equalize to make it 3:3. Scott Kosmachuk finally scored the winning goal for the guests from Villach two minutes before the final whistle. So it’s 1-1 in this quarter-final series. “We’ll take the win for Sunday and keep fighting,” said John Hughes shortly after the game. Sunday’s game started at 5:30 p.m. in the Villach Stadthalle.
