Runoff elections are held in 27 Tyrolean municipalities
In Kufstein, the second largest city in the country after Innsbruck, the independent incumbent Martin Krumschnabel has to assert himself against a candidate from NEOS, but is the clear favorite in the race. In Schwaz and Imst, ÖVP mayors have to duel in the final. In Hall in Tirol, the most populous city in the Innsbruck-Land district, a black incumbent is faced with a runoff election. The run-off elections had become necessary in those communities in which none of the mayoral candidates cleared the 50 percent hurdle in the direct election or achieved an absolute majority.
Most polling stations open at 7am and close in the early afternoon. In some of the larger cities of Kufstein, Schwaz and Hall, you can vote until 4 p.m. On Monday, all 273 newly elected mayors will be sworn in at the Hofburg in Innsbruck.
