Marseille: the Mona Lisa as you’ve never seen it before
The huge room Stock Exchange Palace hosts 600 m2 exhibition dedicated to the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. Immersion, narration and interaction punctuate the visitor’s stroll. The myth of Mona Lisa is teeming with anecdotes that we discover via digital screens. Many portraits of Leonardo da Vinci smoker also live on XXL panels. It was at the age of 48 that the painter, at the height of his glory, was entrusted with the commission of the portrait of a young bourgeois, Lisa Gherardini. Da Vinci is then the protege of François 1uh, arguably the greatest of our royal patrons. This painting made 500 years ago still fascinates.
The youngest will learn many things about its author, in particular his fascination for science and his quest for the “absolute portrait”. Indeed, da Vinci will want, with this Mona Lisa, to create a painting where life pearls with each brushstroke. He will never give his work to his commander, the husband of Lisa Gherardini, perfecting it constantly for 20 years, until his death. It was at this price that he managed to breathe life into his portrait, made on a simple poplar panel. His contemporaries then spoke of a “miracle” in front of such a masterpiece. The myth around the Mona Lisa could then begin…
