San Marino. Middle school pupils at work on the “Forest to come”
Today Thursday 10 March, in the area received under concession, by the Secretariat to the Territory, located in the “La Ciarulla Sporting” area near the shooting facility, the first 100 seedlings have been planted that will go to “the Forest to come: a class a forest “.
The news was announced by the assistant director of the middle school, Marco Magalotti.
The pupils and teachers of 3 classes of the two branches of the Middle School, 2E of Serravalle and 1B and 1N of Fonte dell’Ovo, in the presence of the Secretary for Education – reads the note -, tried their hand at planting the young forest seedlings.
In the coming days, other classes will take turns in the planting and implementation of the ambitious project, conceived by the Middle School, as part of the actions to achieve the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Woods are the best and most efficient system for absorbing CO2 present in the atmosphere, therefore they are our best allies in the fight against climate change due to the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The Middle School with this project therefore wants to dare to make an effective contribution to the fight against climate change.
The project has the ambition to have a multi-year duration, at least 3 years, during which a few thousand forest plants will be planted, and at the same time maintenance work will be carried out to ensure their rooting. The planting and part of the interventions will be carried out directly by the pupils. The ones that have been collected and that will be collected, will be used for the purchase of forest plants, technical means, and to repay some maintenance interventions such as irrigation.
The start-up and implementation of the project were made possible thanks to the contribution of the families and pupils of the Middle School but also to the donations received from some companies and associations of the Republic: CSDL, TITANKA spa, BP Holding – Overwiev, Med Cartotecnica
srl, Reggini Spa concessionaire, Bioagrotech srl, Agrigarden srl, Energreen srl, Consorzio Terra di San Marino.
We also thank the Secretariat to the Territory for the concession of the land, the UGRAA and the Shooting Federation for the precious logistic support.
