In the province of Venice 450 refugees
In the last fourteen days, since the beginning of the emergency in Ukraine, about 2,500 refugees have arrived in Veneto, 450 of them in the province of Venice. This was reported today by the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia, during a press point from the civil protection office in Marghera. Of the total arrivals, 2,306 swabs were carried out, 47 of which with a positive result (incidence of 2%).
Day after day, until the number of entries in our territory increases, “we are growing by 500 a day – explained the governor – but more and more will arrive. If a million is expected in Italy, we will find ourselves having to welcome between 40 and 50 thousand people only in Veneto ».
Zaia explained that the commissioner structure he is responsible for is “preparing for the worst”, for this reason he will sign a complex “mother” ordinance today to manage the emergency linked to the flows arriving from war scenarios. Among the focal points of the provision is the obligation to swab all asylum seekers: this is a measure deemed necessary by virtue of the low vaccination rate of the Ukrainian people, to avoid “upsurge that we cannot afford”. Furthermore, Veneto health workers will be present in the main railway stations, including that of Mestre «to try to be immediately performing. The idea – concluded Zaia – is to make the last mile as short as possible ».
In the meantime, citizens do not stop showing their generosity, continuing to donate to the Region’s current account. To date 1,893 payments have been received in favor of the Ukrainian people, for a total of 291 thousand euros. Also on the hospitality front there is a great opening of the Venetians, who have made about 5,600 beds available.
