″Bigger than the Eiffel Tower.″ Portugal has large caves for storing gas
The European Commission will solve supply problems in accordance with the gas in the European Union 9% October solution in order to avoid supply problems.
In statements to TSFthe professor of the Mining Engineering department at Porto, Joaquim Sousa Góis explains that Portugal, in the Carriço area near Leiria, Eduardo has been storing gas at Eduardo University for about a decade.
“The geology of that place offers particular conditions to create large and some larger ones. To get a sense of the dimension of these large caves, we are talking about caves that can be between 170 meters high, some more than the Eiffel Tower, 60 to 70 meters Meters of Diameter, which gives volume for the use of Gas of Gas of Diameter, in Average, the Professor of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

However, the storage capacity doesn’t stop there. Joining the areas of Aveiro, Peniche, the Algarve coast and the port of Sines, the capacity is “much more”.
“We have a storage capacity of around 330 million m³”, assured by Joaquim Eduardo Sousa Góis.
The university professor also addresses other possible locations for gas storage, such as abandoned mines. However, according to the FEUP professor, this is not an option for Portugal and gives the example of the mines in Alentejo.
“It is allowed for them to be working, because they are, at the moment, giving money. to explore copper and work”, he advises.
Joaquim Eduardo Sousa Góis also explains that Portugal does not depend on gas purchased from Russia, not least because most countries use fossil fuels from Nigeria by sea.
