“We cannot ignore what is happening”
In the House there are those who called her one “Epochal choice”: the Titan goes towards the application of sanction to Russia, taking the European Union as a reference. In fact, therefore, the historical approach is temporarily ‘set aside’ neutral which has characterized the foreign policy of San Marino.
Sanctions was one of the main themes in Foreign Commission, together with the reception of refugees from Ukraine. I mechanisms precise for the sanctions have not yet been outlined, as well as the list of those who will be affected, but the Foreign Secretary, Luca Beccariin his speech, he has already anticipated that, at the moment, they will not concern the import and export of goods or the movement of people. We are focusing above all, explains Beccari, on the area financial. It is still too early even to estimate how many people will be affected by the measures and how much they will amount, in economic terms, but that is a lot limited.
“We cannot ignore what is happening in Ukraine – said the foreign secretary – because the conflict violates most of the principles and the conventions that we support in “multilateral” organizations. Being neutral today – Beccari underlines – obviously means do not go into the military and not take part in coalitions of countries against others. But it doesn’t mean that we have to ignore what’s happening near us. We we do not lose our nature state that seeks dialogue and wants the peaceful resolution of conflicts. However, we believe that, at this stage, the taking of measures, including sanctions, is necessary “.
And regarding the inclusion of the Titan among the ‘Hostile’ countries to Russia, Beccari comments: “This adoption of counter-sanctions was imaginable and how the application of the sanctions themselves will be managed will be managed. We have been included together with all those who have declared their intention to adopt or are already adopting sanctions, such as Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra, the United States, European Union states and others “.
