Cheering for the curler from Urdorf: Alina Pätz wins gold and redeems a World Cup ticket
Alina Pätz wins a Swiss championship in mixed doubles with partner Sven Michel. They now secure a place at the home World Championships in Geneva.
Alina Pätz from Urdorf and her partner Sven Michel won the Swiss Elite Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Biel. In the final on Sunday, the duo from CC Aarau defeated Briar Hürlimann and Yannick Schwaller from CC Solothurn-Regio 8:6. Thanks to the title win, Pätz and Michel can start at the home world championships in Geneva.
This will take place from April 23rd to 30th. The success of Pätz and Michel was well deserved. The duo stayed clean in the round robin and qualified directly for the final with six wins. The final game against last year’s winners from CC Solothurn-Regio published early in favor of Pätz and Michel. After three ends played, the two four led 5-0 thanks to stolen stones. They then kept the game largely under control and were able to maintain the lead over the long term.
While Hürlimann and Schwaller fought back to 5-8 in the 7th end, they failed to do so without the last stone’s right to steal three stones for the saving extra end. After almost an hour and a half, Pätz and Michel were able to celebrate their victory. For Sven Michel it is the second Swiss championship title in mixed doubles after 2018 (back then with Michèle Jäggi). Alina Pätz was able to lift the trophy in this category for the first time.
