a path of growth, sensitivity and sharing that is not only “female”
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on 8 March. Contested by some for its effective usefulness, for the San Marino Workers Union remains a necessary anniversary not to forget the social, political and economic achievements obtained over time by women but to remember all the social battles that are still being faced in the coming years to making one’s voice heard while waiting for the achievement of effective gender equality, a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable and inclusive development. But March 8, 2022 has a particular significance. Covid 19 moves further and further away but does not disappear and gives way to the dark shadows of the Russian-Ukraine crisis. Dismay, fear, anguish but also strength and resilience are in the faces of women, fleeing from ghostly cities with their youngest children under a shaking earth, forced to leave husbands, elderly parents, adult children. Proud look, they huddle in shawls with the colors of their country. Women’s Day in Ukraine is one of the most heartfelt celebrations: on March 8, tulips and roses color the cities. Offices and schools remain closed, the whole town is celebrating. This year only pain and anguish. But the image of a child born in a shelter is the miracle and the hope that moves the world. It is the revolutionary message of regenerative love, energy and fullness of the human condition. But 8 March also serves as a reminder of migrant women who have left Ukraine or other countries alone for years, many years, to come and work here in San Marino, in Italy, in Europe, to financially support their families. . There is still a long way to go: all we can do is continue to believe in democracy, in peace, in equality and fight for these values every day. It is the universal reflection of March 8. An intimate awareness that can only concern everyone, women and men. A journey of growth, sensitivity and sharing that is not only “female”.
