Pandemic increased cases of violence against women in Portugal
The survey data point to a value above the European average.
the inquiry Eurobarometer, released this Friday, March 4, revealed that every 10 Portuguese women consider that the Covid-19 pandemic caused physical and emotional violence against women. In the European Union (EU), 77% of responses say that a pandemic is increasing at the same time. The highest value was from Greece (93%).
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, the European Parliament a survey aimed exclusively at European women, with the aim of assessing the views of different world women, countries and sociodemographic characteristics in times of a pandemic. In the survey, 26,741 women were questioned, of which 1,001 were Portuguese.
In other indicators, such as the economic consequences, almost half (47%) of Portuguese women indicate that the pandemic had a negative impact on their personal income. In the European Union the figure was 38%. Of half of the respondents of the same form of professional and of half of the inquiries Portugal (52%) form more of a professional and that the pandemic staff responds to an average value through a pandemic, while it is a lower personal life (44% ).
In addition, the inquiry revealed that the camp was also designated by measures, not the pandemic, especially due to confinement. The difference between Portugal and the European Union was minimal, as the EU data was 41%.
