Demonstrations – Cologne – #WirWerdenLaut: Students demand better protection against infection – politics
Cologne (dpa / lnw) – Pupils in Cologne called for better protection against infection in the pandemic. Thousands of children and young people are infected with the corona virus every day, but students are not sufficiently protected, criticized Laura Körner from the state student representative.
Around 50 participants in a demonstration on Saturday on the Neumarkt drew attention to the growing burden on the student body, they had received a lot of encouragement, Körner told dpa about the campaign under the name #WirWerdenLaut. “Many people stopped and supported us with applause and encouragement.”
In addition, a vigil was held to remember the children and young people who died from the corona virus. Interested parties could light tea lights and write their worries and demands on posters or with chalk on the floor, Körner said. The following could be read: “Our health counts” or “We need school psychologists”.
In an online petition, #WirWerdenLaut had already called for more pedagogical and psychological staff in schools and pointed out the heavy burden placed on pedagogical students. The petition received over 140,000 signatures within a very short time. The situation is dramatic, said Laura Körner.
