Liechtenstein is tightening sanctions in line with the EU
In addition to previous practice, on Friday, March 4, 2022, Liechtenstein decided to fully implement the sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union on March 1 and 2. The tightening of sanctions comes in response to the increasing brutality of the Russian invasion and Belarus’ interference in the conflict. With the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting flight movements out of the country, the responsible offices within the Task Force Asylum coordinate the accommodation and care of people seeking protection in Liechtenstein.
Liechtenstein has adopted all sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia up to and including March 2, 2022. Included in today’s amendment to the regulation are restrictions on payment transactions for certain Russian financial institutions, the transport of cash and the broadcasting activities of selected Russian media companies. In addition, trade finance deals and investments with Russia will be restricted. In response to Belarus’ involvement in Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, financial and travel restrictions were imposed on several Belarusians.
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting flight movements out of the country, the responsible offices within the Task Force Asylum coordinate the accommodation and care of people seeking protection in Liechtenstein. Although the accommodation capacities in the reception center and the other properties can be set up as good at the moment, the group is making the appropriate arrangements for the possible arrival of larger groups of people. The preparations relate in particular to the topics of real estate, care, security and medical care. For this purpose, existing concepts are analyzed and updated to reflect the current situation. In addition, the proposed properties will require an audit. The responsible authorities are already in contact with the municipalities for this purpose.
The Asylum Task Force was set up in 2015 and consists of representatives from the Immigration and Passport Office, the National Police, the Office for Civil Protection, the Office for Building and Infrastructure, the Office for Health, the Liechtenstein Refugee Aid Association and other domestic and foreign parties involved Place.
In addition to these practical preparations, the competent authorities are analyzing the situation in detail and are examining whether to take the necessary and relevant legal measures with regard to the residence status of people who have fled to Liechtenstein from Ukraine. The government appreciates the solidarity shown by those seeking protection in Liechtenstein in this crisis situation. The government has compiled information and contacts at https://www.regierung.li/solidaritaet-mit-der-ukraine.
The government notes that concerned citizens of the country are turning to them with regard to civil protection. The government states that there is currently no danger for the Liechtenstein population. No special measures are necessary for the population. The government is closely following developments related to the war in Ukraine and will take the necessary measures if the threat situation changes.
