City of Salzburg – Citizens’ participation in the design of the “meeting zone in the city center started”
Vice Mayor Unterkofler: “Joint development of the redesign is a matter close to my heart”
Karajan-Platz, Bürgerspitalplatz, Neumayrplatz and Museumsplatz, connected by Bürgerspitalgasse and Münzgasse: the route from Neutor to the new roundabout at Franz-Josef-Kai is around 400 meters long, which has ended the “crane ride” through the old town. This area in the heart of the old town is the focus of the “Dialogue Meeting Zone Downtown” project that Deputy Mayor Barbara Unterkofler initiated last year.
“As promised, we are now starting citizen participation in the design of the upcoming meeting zone. Only a week after the Corona openings, we immediately start the dialogue and push the redesign. I am pleased to be able to redesign the next old town area in dialogue with the citizens. We will discuss and work out how this can be optimally implemented and which functions should be fulfilled in a joint dialogue,” says the Deputy Mayor responsible for traffic and urban planning, who has already been responsible for the redesign of Getreidegasse and Linzer Gasse in the past Cap.
“The end of the Kranzlfahrn has led to traffic calming in this old town area and now offers the opportunity to redesign the old town between Neutor and Museumsplatz. The establishment of the meeting zone and the redesign will significantly improve the quality of stay. In addition, pedestrians and cyclists will probably have significantly more space and have equal rights in road traffic,” says Unterkofler.
Deputy Mayor Unterkofler and the city planning department invite you to the first participatory event on Monday, March 14, 2022, in the Great Festival Hall. Ideas and suggestions from all interested parties are collected and discussed in professionally moderated discussions.
Based on the results of this event, planning proposals in the areas of traffic as well as open space planning and urban design will be developed. In a second dialogue event, probably in May, these options will be presented and discussed with the population.
“The joint development with the people of Salzburg is a matter close to my heart,” emphasizes department head Unterkofler. “I invite everyone who is interested to have a say in the redesign and to bring in their suggestions and wishes!”
