Sweden’s Prince Oscar turns six years old – Royal Central
Sweden’s Prince Oscar, Duke of Scania, celebrates his sixth birthday today.
The young king will celebrate his birthday privately with his family at Haga Castle.
The Royal Court has released a new image to celebrate his sixth birthday. They were taken by his mother, Crown Princess Victoria, before his birthday.
This is Prince Oscar’s final year before he has to start primary school in Sweden at the age of seven. It is expected that he will go with his older sister, Princess Estelle, to Campus Manilla School in the fall of 2023.
Oscar is the third of four of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s and Queen Silvia’s grandchildren who turn one year old within a few weeks of each other. Princess Leonore, his cousin, celebrated his eighth birthday on February 22; Princess Estelle turned ten on February 23. His cousin, Princess Adrienne, will celebrate her fourth birthday on March 9.
Prince Oscar Carl Olof was born at Karolinska University Hospital on March 2, 2016 – just one month before his mother’s first cousin, Prince Alexander (b. April 19, 2016). He is the second child and only son of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden. As such, he is the third in line to the throne after his mother and older sister, Princess Estelle, 10.
As the son of Sweden’s Crown Princess, Oscar has several royal sponsors. He counts Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Princess Madeleine (his mother’s aunt) and Oscar Magnuson (his mother’s cousin) as godparents. His cousin, Hans Åström, is also a sponsor. He was baptized in the Royal Chapel at Stockholm Castle on 27 May 2016 in the Royal Family’s antique baptismal dress.
Prince Oscar, like his older sister, maintains the style of Royal Highness and membership in the Royal Family. Therefore, he will be expected to commit on behalf of the monarch when he comes of age. His royal cousins do not have that expectation because the king took away their royal nobility and place in the royal house in 2019.
