The first weekend of racing for Scuderia San Marino ended with excellent results. In the all-Tuscan test of Valle del Tevere the best placings come thanks to the historic cars, the Costa-Mularoni duo is positioned in second place on the podium, behind the Italians Tonelli and Debbi. At the finish line Simone Gasperoni arrives sixth with his Citroen AX Sport, sailed by Elia Albani while Germano Bollini closes in eighth position on Ford Escort.
On the sidelines of the second place obtained in the historic championship, we heard Corrado Costa, who states: “I honestly did not expect this podium, but the Championship has started in the best possible way. I didn’t expect it because very experienced and skilled drivers competed with me, but we too had some luck among the various retirements of the other crews and some excellent performances in practice. As always, I would like to thank the Horn Team for providing me with a good car, capable of always leading me to the finish line.
Good news also arrives from the various classes of modern cars: victory in class R3 for Davide Gasperoni, first place finish together with the navigator and President of the San Marino Scuderia Roberto Selva. First place also in the N2 class: Maicol Lanci rejoices together with Fabio De Luca in Citroen Saxo. The couple formed by the San Marino Jader Vagnini and Elisabetta Franchina on Skoda Fabia is consolidated with a precious seventh place in class R5 and seventh in the general classification. On the other hand, the duo made up of Macina and Manzaroli closed in 52nd position in the overall standings.
Also noteworthy are some retirements that involved the San Marino pilots: among these the Raschi-Biordi and Pellegrini-Grossi duo, unlucky also the navigator Baldazzi forced to finish the race ahead of time; while the crews formed by Leo Mularoni and Livio Ceci and Bruno Pelliccioni and Mirco Gabrielli could not be at the start.
“It was a difficult race, especially due to the weather conditions right from the reconnaissance in the Cerbaiolo test, the last stretch of which was covered in snow” – comments Vagnini at the opening – “I’m still adapting to the new car; therefore, compared to my rivals there is a gap to fill. This year we arrived at this appointment with the desire to do well, I have to thank the San Marino Scuderia and the mechanic Andrea of the ProLine Sport team in San Marino together with all the guys in the team, who have provided me with all the assistance. necessary. I am also interacting well with Elisabetta Franchina, she is a young, professional girl who has a great desire to learn. Overall I am happy with the seventh place and the times we achieved, in the Cerbaiolo test I paid something in the last laps driving with used tires. In these days we are evaluating whether to make the first races of the Italian Terrain Championship in Val d’Orcia, always with Skoda. For me it will be a stimulating challenge and a good opportunity to return to this competition after years in the Raceday championship. ”
But at the weekend there was also space for karts, where the card holder Giacomo Marchioro was engaged. The San Marino driver competed on the Azzurra track in Jesolo (VE) in the race valid for the RMC Austria championship, starting from pole position and getting a good third place. These are our statements on Saturday after the race: “Since Friday we have been in front and we confirmed ourselves in the afternoon by taking pole position, despite not having a perfect lap. On Sunday during the races we had a lot of difficulties with the chassis – despite the various attempts of the mechanic Luca, of the coach Giorgio and of my father, to whom I owe a big thank you, who did all they could to solve the problems – not we managed to get out of it completely, but also taking advantage of the fortunes of others they managed to close the third overall in the midst of world-class riders. This weekend there is another race immediately, again in Jesolo, where I aim to do better. “
