Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor
In the tenure track system, a person appointed to the position of assistant professor must have a doctoral degree, the ability to work independently independently, and the teaching skills required for the position. In addition, applicants for the position of Assistant Professor must demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application period.
Applicants’ qualifications should take into account not only his / her research work and the teacher’s qualifications, but also his / her success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience.
Professor
The appointed professor must have a doctoral degree and a high-level degree, experience in the supervision of scientific research, and the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the nominee must submit documents on the international research cooperation he / she represents. The professor must also have the skills required for the position of academic leader. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application period.
The evaluation of the applicant’s qualifications must take into account scientific publications and other scientifically valuable research results, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the productivity of the teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, the demonstration of teaching skills, and the applicant’s participation in doctoral training. Account will also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and internationally selected positions, as well as leadership and interaction skills.
In order for the applicant’s thesis and dissertation supervision ability to meet the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, the applicant must have completed at least one dissertation supervision. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application period.
The assistant / docent / professor is responsible for the undergraduate and continuing education and in-service training in the field, as well as for the planning, development and implementation of expert training in the field. The assistant / docent / professor participates in teaching in practical small groups and in lecture-based teaching.
The professor’s duties also include conducting and directing scientific research, monitoring the development of research and participating in social interaction and national and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the professor’s duties include other duties assigned to the unit.
Practical experience may be demonstrated by an expert qualification or by the qualification of a certified expert in the field.

Remuneration is based on levels 7 (assistant professor) and levels 8-10 (professor) of the table of requirements for the teaching and research staff of the Finnish universities’ remuneration system. In addition, the appointee is paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
