Covid-19. Portugal registers the lowest number of daily cases since late December
Portugal recorded, in the last 24 hours, 4,209 new cases of covid-19 and 24 deaths associated with the disease. These, presented in the bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health, released this Monday, amount to 262.
Of cases recorded since the number of diaries released today, December 26 is the lowest, the day on which 3,732 infections were recorded.
Nevertheless, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region again reported the highest number of new cases: 1,211. The North follows with 1,004 infections, the Center with 716, the Algarve with 402, the Alentejo with 217. In the Azores there are 408 more cases and in Madeira 338 more.
Of the 4 deaths, 12 in the North, six in Lisbon Vale do Tejo, one in the Algarve and one in an Alentejo, the same for Madeira. The Azores have not recorded any deaths from covid-19.
The number of patients in Portuguese hospitals due to covid-19 has risen. There are now 1.47 hospitalized covid patients, 82 more than in the last balance sheet. Of these, 102 are in Intensive Care Units (ICU), just like yesterday.
On the other hand, 762 more people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, thus bringing the total recovered in the country since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,785,374.
There are now 456,181 active cases in the country, 3,423 more than yesterday. Note that from today, in accordance with “the publication of the new Resolution of the Council of Ministers and the update of Norm 015/2020”, the DGS allows counting the numbers of contacts under surveillance on a daily basis.
The insufficiency and transmissibility index (Rt) were updated today. The national insufficiency has gone down and is now 1806.8 cases of infection per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days. When considering only the mainland, the incidence is 1728.0 cases. The national Rt is 0.75, 0.2 more than on Friday, and on the mainland it is 0.73, also an increase of the same value.
