Man found dead in front of hotel room
MELS – On Sunday at 08:40 a.m., a 45-year-old man was found dead in front of a hotel room on Charlottengasse in Mels. Law enforcement officials assume it was a homicide.
According to the cantonal police, the hotel manager reported to the medical emergency number 144 that a man was lying in the corridor in front of a hotel room. The deployed paramedics would then have found that the man was dead and it must be a crime.
“As a result, there was a larger deployment of patrols and specialists from the St.Gallen cantonal police. The public prosecutor’s office of the St.Gallen canton has opened criminal proceedings,” the statement continues.
At the moment, the investigators are assuming that there was a dispute in the hotel corridor. The 45-year-old man was killed. It is unclear who exactly was involved in this dispute. The exact cause of death was determined in cooperation with the Institute for Forensic Medicine.

The victim is a 45-year-old Italian. He had been a long-term tenant at the hotel for several months.
