Lightning comeback: Neuer back against Salzburg
Salzburg will overcome Manuel Neuer in the round of 16 second leg of the soccer Champions League: Bayern’s captain, who was represented by Sven Ulreich in the 1-1 first leg, will later make his comeback in goal against the Austrian champions on March 8th.
Just three weeks ago, the 35-year-old had a meniscus operation. After the 1-0 in the Bundesliga in Frankfurt, coach Julian Nagelsmann announced the lightning comeback. “Manu will return to goalkeeping training next week and will then train with the team again.” If everything goes well, the captain will be in goal against Leverkusen on Saturday, and Neuer will “very likely” be ready against Salzburg.
Dortmund failed in Augsburg
In Frankfurt, representative Ulreich kept a clean sheet in a league game for the first time since 2019. Leroy Sane scored the decisive goal (71st). “Of course we’re never satisfied when we lose a game,” said Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner. “But I am very happy with the performance.” Bayern’s lead over Dortmund grew to eight points: the pursuer failed in the 1-1 draw in Augsburg.
Coach Adi Hütter missed a liberating blow with Mönchengladbach: After the 0:2 deficit against Wolfsburg, Matthias Ginter scored the supposed 3:2 (91st) – the video referee conceded the goal because of a foul. “The team showed will and deserved this point,” said Hütter. “That gives me courage.”
At Wolfsburg, Xaver Schlager made his comeback six months after tearing the cruciate ligament. “Of course I would have liked to win, but it’s important that I get back into my rhythm,” said the 24-year-old. Team boss Franco Foda would also look forward to the World Cup play-off in advance.
