Heidenreichstein,Salzburg – ex-soccer player Bernhard Müller: career in the city of Mozart
Bernhard Müller, born and raised in Heidenreichstein, drew attention to himself at a young age. On the one hand through his large circle of friends, to which he belonged as a musical “entertainer”, on the other hand through his extraordinary sporting talent, which made him a regular player of FC Heidenreichstein at the age of 16. Although he soon left his hometown for work-related reasons, Müller has remained a Waldviertler heart and soul.
look back
As a real “green and white”, Bernhard Müller was once attached to both the Heidenreichsteiners and the Rapidlers, which is why he still keeps his fingers crossed for both clubs today. Of course, a clash between the clubs during his active days and the duel with “Goaleador” Hans Krankl are among Müller’s sporting highlights, although he suffered a clear defeat.
In addition to his sporting activities, the former team captain also concentrated on his school education and completed the HTL for electrical engineering in St. Pölten in order to then start his professional career at the Nixdorf company in Vienna. Having meanwhile arrived in the IT sector and held a leading position, he moved to Salzburg with his young family in 1989 in order to settle down there.
The wife also comes from Heidenreichstein
While Bernhard Müller founded his own company ten years later and after some time worked in the “Raiffeisen investment environment” as managing director, his wife Heidi – also a native of Heidenreichstein – founded a small animal practice in the city of Mozart as a veterinarian with a doctorate. Today she runs the practice together with her daughter Astrid, while her husband went into well-deserved retirement in 2017.
Son Peter, like his parents, dared to take the leap into self-employment, he runs a logistics company.
The Waldviertel is still a fixed anchor point
Although the Müllers have already completed many trips, also for work reasons, the Waldviertel is still one of the most popular destinations, says the emigrant. Bernhard Müller: “We come to Heidenreichstein once a month and are always happy when we meet our relatives and long-standing friends and acquaintances.”
As a Salzburg resident by choice, the football fan is now keeping his fingers crossed for the “Red Bulls” – “but of course only if they don’t play against Rapid”. Otherwise, the Müllers spend a lot of time outdoors with their dog and also like extended tours on their motorbikes. “And if I’m also looking for relaxation, I sometimes go fishing or try my hand at cooking as a hobby.”
