‘After I Lost My Son Luigi, I Opened A Child Care Center In Malta Dedicated To Him
A Maltese mother and entrepreneur opened up about why she wanted to open a series of childcare centers in Malta, and how the government helped her do so.
Speaking at a Labor Party political rally, Charmaine Caruana, the director of the San Luigi Child Care Center, said she wanted to address a recent article she saw online.
“I saw an article saying that women today are forced to go to work because of the rising cost of living, and as a woman I was hurt because I don’t feel that a woman needs to work just because of the rising cost. of life. I think that should be a right for a woman to be able to be independent and enjoy her own dignity. “
“Just because I’m a woman doesn’t mean I have to stay home from morning to evening in the kitchen cooking, washing, cleaning.” not that this is as bad as it is – even though I am the Director of Child Care, I still do all this and make sure there is food on the table when the family comes home. ”
Caruana opened up about why she wanted to open Child Care centers – even opening a fourth one in the middle of the pandemic, regardless of the challenges.
“I was five months pregnant when I lost my son, I was going to name him Luigi, and when I lost him, I just wasn’t mentally well… I loved him, and I said, ‘I need to do something, something big to keep his name forever. and I decided to open my first childcare center. ”
“After one, I ran two, and from two, to three – and now I have four,” she said as the crowd praised her.
She thanked the government for its support during the pandemic to be able to pay the salaries of its 50 employees.
“When the pandemic started, God looked that if the government hadn’t helped us, I didn’t want to fire anyone but I was worried about their wages,” she said. “But because of their support, I was able to open a fourth center in the middle of a pandemic.”
