Who will win Rally Sweden? – DirtFish
The weather is warming up in Sweden, but should stay below freezing and wash the roads in the areas around Umeå in snow. But once you have had some rally cars over it, will the snow and ice still be there during the day?
It’s something I can not predict, but to get out of the drivers’ form when we were last in Sweden and it was more sludge than snow, then Toyota’s Elfyn Evans can be the victory favorite this weekend.
He did a top job of winning the latest edition of the event, and although his previous form has been uneven in the country, it should not be a problem. He is now more involved in car development than ever before, more experienced than ever before and without a doubt also more confident.
The latter can be crucial as the rally has been moved to 2022 and drivers will need to be able to trust their own senses as much as their new pacenotes.
I do not see Esapekka Lappi or Hyundai challenging at this event, but there may be tough challenges from other parts of Toyota’s lineup. But even if they have the pace, Takamoto Katsuta and Kalle Rovanperä will probably make the right calls every time in a rally that – like Monte Carlo – will require some smart thinking about which tires to take in a loop of stages and how many of them?
