Portugal keeps embassy in Kiev open and reinforces staff
O Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, said this Monday, on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels, that Portugal will maintain the embassy in Kiev and reinforce staff.
Santos Silva states that the main topic discussed at this meeting in Russia was approved between Ukraine and in that context, “a financial support of 120 euros for the European Union to Ukraine” was formally approved and “the launch of a training mission and supporting military education”.
The minister assured that embassies in Ukraine will not be closed after the appeal of the minister of Ukraine. “That was our commitment, not only did we not reduce the staff, but we reinforced it”, underlined the minister
The European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers are discussing today, in Brussels, with their Ukrainian counterpart, the crisis on Ukraine’s borders, where Russia maintains military assets that raise fears of a large-scale attack.
After a tension today that was addressed by EU Heads of State and Government last Thursday, mini-east summit in a celebration before the EU-Africa summit, a threat of a new war in Europe returns to the table of heads of diplomacy, after a weekend that saw an escalation of the conflict, with the increase of clashes in the Donbass region and the prolongation of Russian military exercises in Belarus.
