Minister Hasler took part in talks on the Ukraine crisis – Liechtenstein
MUNICH – Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler attended the Munich Security Conference (MSC) at the weekend. The crisis in Ukraine is at the center of the talks. Hasler also used the participation for a series of bilateral talks with her counterparts from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Lithuania, Ukraine and with political decision-makers from Germany.
In view of the Russian troop deployment on the Ukrainian border, this year’s Munich Security Conference supplemented the current challenges in relation to European security in particular. This topic was also the focus of Foreign Minister Hasler’s working meeting, writes the government. In a personal conversation with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, she discussed the current threat situation on the Ukrainian border. According to the statement, she was very concerned about the latest developments and stated that Liechtenstein die “support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the dialogue for an immediate de-escalation normally has to be”.
In this context, Hasler also reports on the long-standing commitment of Liechtenstein foreign policy: “Within the framework of its international memberships in organizations such as the UN and the OSCE, Liechtenstein is particularly committed to the principles of peaceful conflict resolution, the prohibition of the threat or use of force and for the strengthening of international law.” Foreign Minister Kuleba expressed his gratitude for this support and for Liechtenstein’s accession to the Crimea Platform. This platform coordinates the efforts of numerous western states and international organizations to peacefully pursue the occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia.

Hasler met Secretary of State Baerbock and Payne
The minister also attended a working session hosted by German Foreign Minister Baerbock and Australian Foreign Minister Payne to discuss the implementation of the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda among MSC women foreign ministers. The agenda aims to strengthen the role of women in peace and security processes. Such an initiative for cooperation in the format of the foreign ministers was launched in part by Liechtenstein and Sweden a few years ago within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
In her first meeting with Foreign Minister Baerbock, Government Councilor Hasler also emphasized the importance of the regular meetings of the German-speaking foreign ministers and referred to the revised invitation to the next meeting in April in Liechtenstein.
Bilateral meeting with other partners
Hasler also discussed the current crisis and the security policy of the European Union with the Foreign Minister of Lithuania and Sweden. The minister also took the opportunity to get in touch with other allies of Liechtenstein. According to the announcement, she had a working meeting with the foreign ministers of the EEA/EFTA partner islands and Norway on current cooperation issues. She also exchanged views with Melanie Huml, Bavarian State Secretary for European and International Affairs, to strengthen regional policy. Last but not least, she met Britta Hasselmann, leader of the Greens parliamentary group in the Bundestag, and Norbert Röttgen, top politician of the CDU.
