Inter Milan surprised by Sassuolo in Serie A
The formation of Simone Inzaghi, put under pressure from the start by a badly concluded counter by Traoré (1st), paid for his completely failed start against Maxime Lopez’s teammates who played without complexes. The former Marseillais was also at the origin of the first but by scratching, with Domenico Berardi, a ball in the feet of Hakan Calhanoglu in the middle of the field. Launched in depth, Giacomo Raspadori pierced Samir Handanovic with a hard shot at ground level (8th). Lopez then shifted to the left side Hamed Junior Traoré, whose center was taken over by Gianluca Scamacca, forgotten by the nerazzurri rearguard. Helpless, the Slovenian goalkeeper watched the ball hit his right post before finishing in the back of the net (26th).
Consigli sickens Inter Milan forwards
Stung, Inter raised their voice and proved dangerous on a header from Milan Skriniar (31st) then a shot from Roberto Gagliardini (35th), but each time, Andrea Consigli was on the parade. Inter were on the verge of sinking on a curling shot from Berardi on the bar (38th).
In the second half, Consigli continued to disgust the Milan attackers – Edin Dzeko had replaced Gagliardini (46th). But the Bosnian was no more successful, stumbling over the Sassuolo goalkeeper (58th, 63rd), before a huge miss from Lautaro Martinez, alone in front of goal (72nd). It was even the visitors who got the biggest chances at the end of the match against a desperate defense, by Raspadori (73rd, 79th) and Berardi (79th).
Inter believed to reduce the score in additional time by Stefan De Vrij (90th + 3) but his but was canceled after VAR intervention for a preliminary hand from Dimarco.
Beaten by Liverpool (0-2) in the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday, Inter Milan ended their week badly. The nerazzurri team remains 2nd in Serie A two lengths behind AC Milan but has one more game to play.
