increase in the number of accidents in electric scooters
A university study estimates that a third of the accidents on this racing car, unmissable in the streets of Paris, are on the head.
We do not present her anymore. For four years now, the electric scooter has taken a certain place in the landscape of Parisian mobility. They are practical and easy to use. Today, there are 5,000 deployed in self-service in the capital, not counting those of users.
But cohabitation is sometimes chaotic with other means of transport. “As long as we are on the bike path we are relatively safe…relatively. But as soon as we have to drive on the road in the middle of traffic with other motorized vehicles, it’s another story.“, explains a local resident. “I think everyone drives dangerously: bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades…it’s total anarchy“, confides, with a sneer, a man on a bicycle.”I think I’m sometimes too late, so I sometimes try not to stop at red lights or try to save as much time as possible“, adds a third resident.
At the same time, electric scooter accidents have increased. The racing cars would be the cause of many injuries, sometimes serious: this ranges from skin lesions to fractures of the teeth or even the jaws.
The use of the electric scooter is not always planned, and the protections, even less. “It’s not planned that I ride a scooter, I don’t plan to lug a helmet around Paris“, confides a local resident. Another adds: “Honestly, I don’t think about it [aux protections]a bit too lazy sometimes“.”I should have taken one [casque], that would have been more prudent. But I haven’t seen many people wearing it“, notes a third person.
According to a study conducted in Lyon by the Joint Unit for Epidemiological Research and Transport Work Environment Surveillance (UMRESTTE), a third of accident victims are hit in the head. It also specifies that nearly 90% of the accident victims drove without a helmet, in addition to having adopted a significant risk: use of alcohol or drugs, two on a single machine, traffic on the sidewalk, or at maximum speed. Knowing also that the speed of the cars is limited to 20km / h in the majority of the axes of the capital.
