Former post office houses interesting for town planning
politics
Salzburg municipalities and cities want to revitalize houses that belong to the post office and integrate them more closely into their town centres. In some cases, such properties were bought for a lot of money – for example by the city of St. Johann. Similar projects are underway in Radstadt and Pfarrwerfen (all in Pongau).
In comparison to St. Johann or Radstadt, at 150,000 euros for 88 square meters, Pfarrwerfen is pumping significantly less into the purchase of the old post office. The hoped-for effect is great, says Mayor Bernhard Weiß (ÖVP): “The former branch is very centrally located in our town center. In terms of size, it is ideal for a business premises. The municipal council wants to bring in a shop that offers regional products.”
Discussions are currently underway with several interested parties. A decision should be made in the coming months.
St. Johann with big plans
The purchase of the post office area in St. Johann for 3.5 million euros caused a stir in 2020. Instead of a new city center, a large-scale project with open spaces is now planned there. When and how exactly it will be built is still being negotiated, says Mayor Günther Mitterer (ÖVP).
Radstadt is still waiting for the contract
The politics of the neighboring town of Radstadt is still in the bidding process for a post office property. An offer was submitted that was valid until the middle of the year, says Mayor Christian Pewny (FPÖ). The payout price is 1.15 million euros. According to the Mayor of Radstadt, a concrete plan for use will only be made once the contract has been awarded.
