After many years: is Horn thinking about leaving Cologne?
After 200 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln, coach Steffen Baumgart dismissed Timo Horn as number 1. Now the longtime captain has returned. But what happens in summer?

Marvin Schwäbe has been Steffen Baumgart’s number 1 at 1. FC Köln for some time. The one who suffered: Timo Horn, part of the “Effzeh” since 2002 and has played in 201 Bundesliga, 21 DFB Cup and 98 second division games since then.
Coach Baumgart revealed at the time that the 28-year-old veteran was “disappointed” with the choice.
Horn himself hinted at this disappointment on Saturday evening after the narrow 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in an interview with “Sky”: “It’s not easy, I’ve gone through all FC youth teams and have been number 1 for ten years played to the pros. For as long as I can remember I’ve been between the posts.”
“What happens next, we’ll see”
Nevertheless, the goalkeeper called up that evening for the Swabian, who was suffering from Corona, tried to “positively accept” this degradation from day one. After all, it’s no use burying your head in the sand.” Horn wants to “continue to work hard” – and “we’ll see” what may happen in the future. But you don’t have to prove anything anymore.
And yet: What exactly is going through Horn’s head? His current contract only runs until June 30, 2023. “It’s always difficult to say … in football things happen very, very quickly.” The goalkeeper doesn’t want to rule out a change of club, even if he’s not a man “who kisses the crest today and is gone tomorrow”. Nevertheless: “I always have the right and the ambition to play. We’ll see what happens then.”
Baumgart disappointed by the fans
In any case, his coach Steffen Baumgart was impressed by his goalkeeper’s performance – but not by the behavior of the fans in Müngersdorf: “First of all, I have to say that I was disappointed by the audience in the first half. I missed the support of the Cologne audience for a young man from Cologne. The second half was how I imagine it would be.”
“It’s not easy for him in the situation he’s in,” Baumgart continued – and “he’s the support we need.” If everything goes according to plan, Schwäbe will return to the box in Fürth next Saturday (3:30 p.m.).
