Winter Olympics curling LIVE: Team GB plays against Sweden in medal match with Montell Douglas in bobsled
IOC’s Bach disturbed by pressure on Russian skaters
Follow the live broadcast of day 14 of the Winter Olympics when Team GB hopes to guarantee a second curling medal in the ladies’ semifinals.
Great Britain, skipped by Eve Muirhead, will face Sweden as they look to secure at least one silver medal – just as Bruce Mouat’s men did on Thursday – while Japan will compete against Switzerland. The winners go through to fight for gold, while the losing teams will have the opportunity to play for bronze.
Elsewhere, Eileen Gu secured gold in the women’s freestyle semi-final, one of the five gold medals at stake today, and became the first freerider to win three medals in a single game. The home favorite reached victory and nailed the 900s to the back with advanced grips in the air on the way to the best score 95.25. This is her second gold. She has already won a gold in big air and barely missed one in the slopestyle event and earned silver for China. Team GB’s Zoe Atkin, who qualified for the semi-final four, finished ninth after falling on her first two runs.

What are the lights on curling stones?
The lights are a tracking system to ensure that athletes drop the stone before the first pig line – the red line at both ends where both teams must drop the stone before passing it.
During Team USA’s second match against Italy, Stefania Constantini was penalized with a hogline foul at the sixth end.
A heat sensor is embedded in the ice and will be triggered if your hand continues to hold the handle while you break the line, which means that each stone has batteries to power these sensors.
If you fail to drop your hand before the line, the lights will turn red and that team will be forced to remove it from the game.
It rarely happens at this elite level, but such is the pressure at the Winter Olympics, it can happen sometimes.

Winter Olympics: All about curling
The hammer is a crucial part of curling.
The team that has the hammer can throw the last stone at each end, generally a significant advantage, with all the other thrown stones and the current scoring situation clear.
Which team does not score during a finish will get the hammer in the next round – this sometimes means that the team avoids scoring just a single point, but instead prefers to keep the hammer and score heavier goals in the next round.
It is retained if none of the teams score.

Winter Olympics: All about curling
Twenty years after Rhona Martin sent down her famous “Stone of Destiny”, Britain’s men’s curling team has secured a shot at Olympic gold with a nerve-wracking 8-4 semi-final victory over the United States in Beijing.
Martin watched from his BBC commentary booth when John Shusters missed the selection attempt at the end, Bruce Mouat’s men guaranteed a place in the final, where they will meet world champions Sweden on Saturday.

Winter Olympics: Christmas nine in the 1000m
When Thomas Krol won gold to continue the Netherlands’ strong performance in skating in Beijing, Team GB’s Cornelius Kersten finished ninth.
It puts an end to Kersten’s Winter Olympics, after ending Britain’s long wait for a long-distance skater at the Games.
Ninth place in the 1,000 m was his best finish of the three disciplines he participated in, after 19th place in the 1,500 m and 25th place in the 500 m.

Winter Olympics: Montell Douglas will write history for Team GB
Montell Douglas will make history today in Beijing as the first woman to compete in both the summer and winter games for the UK.
Douglas was part of the 4x100m relay team in Beijing in 2008 and returns today in bob.
“I strongly believe that if you can see it, you can achieve it,” Douglas said before flying to China.
“And I hope now that people will see me and say, ‘Oh, my God, the first British woman was not just a British woman, but black society will also say,’ it’s a black person we can relate to. ‘, especially when they only see winter sports as a white-dominated world. “

Winter Olympics: Structure for Team GB vs Sweden
“I always say that round robin is one competition and the playoffs are another,” said Muirhead. “There are things we need to restore but I definitely think that as a team we are a playoff team.
“We have proven that we are capable of winning that gold medal as a group, so we will go hard tomorrow.”

Winter Olympics: Structure for Team GB vs Sweden
After the morning’s freestyle skiing, skicross and men’s bronze medal match in curling, the focus is now on the women’s tournament when Eve Muirhead’s Team GB meets Sweden for a place in the gold match at 12:05 GMT.
Muirhead’s side broke through yesterday in the middle of a confusing set of permutations, beating ROC while Switzerland beat Japan and Sweden beat South Korea.
“This team has a lot of resilience,” Muirhead said after GB qualified for the semi-finals.
“We have come from a squad of nine people to a team that has won the Europeans, qualified for the Olympics and now has a semi-final place.
“I do not think you can turn your back on this team. We have shown a lot of character, a lot of cruelty and determination and we fully deserve the place.”

Eileen Gu continues the gold rush at the Winter Olympics, but part of the home’s rage takes away the success
Eileen Gu hovered over the halfpipe to win gold and her third Olympic medal, but the Snow Princess’ political actions do not convince everyone.
The 18-year-old became the first freestyle skier to win medals in three different disciplines at the same game with a dominant performance in Zhangjiakou.
Gus’ large amplitude and height on the barrel dwarfed her competitors and a first run that lacked a bit of pace still got 93.25.
On her second, even better at 95.25, she won by 4.5 points from the impressive Canadians Cassie Sharpe and Rachael Karker.
It was the crowning achievement of a strenuous freeski treble – the only skier to make it to all three finals – that already makes her the most successful athlete in the sport’s history.
