Third aircraft stationed: Eurowings is expanding in Salzburg
The Lufthansa subsidiary is expanding in Austria. Eurowings is stationing a third Airbus in Salzburg for the summer.
Jens Bischof traveled to the fourth largest city in Austria this week. The head of Eurowings not only experienced the 1-1 draw between FC Red Bull Salzburg and FC Bayern Munich in the Champions League. He also had a business appointment: he announced the stationing of a third aircraft at the airport, after increasing it to two just a year ago.
“Salzburg is our largest and most reliable base in Austria,” says Bischof. You see a lot of potential in the city. With the three aircraft, Eurowings will fly to 15 destinations from the Austrian airport in the summer. This includes cities like Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg or Cologne as well as beach destinations like Heraklion, Olbia or Palma. “We are currently seeing a leap in bookings,” continued the Eurowings boss.
Dismantled in Vienna
Eurowings is currently trying to position itself as an alternative to low-cost airlines such as Ryanair. The Lufthansa subsidiary just wants to be “inexpensive”, i.e. combine cheap tickets with good service. Salzburg is her fifth base abroad, alongside Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Pristina and Stockholm. At the Vienna location, where it had flown as a wet lease partner for Austrian Airlines, Eurowings announced a massive cut during the Corona crisis.
