Portugal is the European country with the most women inventors
According to OPMI, Portugal is the third country in the world and the first in Europe with the most women inventors. Cuba leads the top, a country where more than half of the patents are registered by women.
Portugal is the third country in the world and the first in Europe with the most women inventors. They are Dice of the World Intellectual Organization (WIPO/WIPO), which manifested the participation of requests for ownership of international patents by inventors in 2021.
Worldwide, the average number of women applying for patents is 17%. Portugal is the European country most not classificationthird overallfollowed by Romania in sixth position and Spain in checks.
Cuba and the Philippines were the countries with the highest values in the table, with 53% and 38% respectively. Cuba stands out for, in addition to surpassing the global ranking, it has more than half of the outstanding to medium-large number of registered patents for women.
The other country that stands out for its above-average rating is China, with 24% of female inventors.
On the opposite side is Japan, which has one of the worst performers, with 10% of inventors. Similarly, India, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia all achieved low scores.
Other major European countries, from Germany and the UK to Italy and Sweden, below world average. The United States and France, on the other hand, have results that coincide with the global average result.
Portugal has the 4th highest rate of women engineers and scientists in the EU
According to the most recent study by Eurostat, the European Union Statistics Office, in Portugal, more than half of engineers and scientists are women (51%)which puts the country ten points above the EU average (41%).
Women have a more active role in promoting scientific and technological innovation, targeting country data and global role. However, prejudices and stereotypes still drive girls and women away from these areas, referred to as the United Nations General Assembly.
With the aim of raising awareness of this gender inequality, which penalizes careers and women in the areas of science, technology and innovation and to guarantee equitable access in these areas, this UN Assembly of the UN, which on February 11th would take place celebrating International Women’s Day and the annual Girls in Science Day.
