The Marseille city highlighted. The MauMA, Museum of Urban Arts in Marseille, is launching a call for expressions of interest aimed at artists. Objective: to create one of the largest courses in the world of urban arts or street art.
The largest urban arts course in the world could well be in Marseille. In any case, it is the ambition of MauMA which invites artists of all nationalities to participate in this project.
The works created will be carried across four boroughs of the city to create a visual arts course outside. Street art is already part of the urban furniture of the city of Marseille, in the Panier district or Cours Julien.
No less than 220 players in the territory have already been triggered since the launch of the idea in February 2021.
A large-scale project open to those who wish to design and produce a work of visual and urban art in public spaces, until 2026. Regardless of the discipline practiced (collage, sculpture, painting…), you can also propose your participation.
Among the first artists on the list, we find in particular Mahn Kloix. He painted the portrait of a refugee from the Uyghur camps in the Félix-Pyat district of Marseille.
“I was very proud to be able to lay the first stones of this project, I can’t wait to see what’s next“, he named us. Especially since this subject, which particularly affects him, has made people talk about him as far away as America, where the woman who inspired his work now resides.”I had the opportunity to talk with her, she was very moved and touched” he added.
Inspired by the WynwoodWall in Miami, the Street Art Tour in Paris or Comuna 13 in Medellin, the project is carried by Meta 2center of creation in visual arts, urban art and design located in the Marseille city.
“A slightly crazy bet”
100 works: this is the objective set by Aurélie Masset, the director of Méta 2. This artist at heart hopes that this project will be unifying and above all serve the development of the territory.
In a dynamic of participatory creation, “the idea is above all to give meaning to these achievements with integration or mediation, by integrating the different actors and inhabitants and by remunerating the artists“.
“Whether at the Cours Julien or the Panier, we see that Marseille is a city of urban culture with a very strong identity, it has its place on the international scene as far as street art is concerned.“, she asserts.
For the candidate, it is requested to provide some documents, in particular a biography and a selection of representative visuals of his work. A know that everyone will be free to use the techniques of expression of their choice. Some works will be produced in an implicative dimension in order to involve users, residents or neighborhood actors.
