Projet de téléphérique à Bordeaux : les habitants auront leur mot à dire

After Toulouse, Bordeaux will also have the right to cable car. Convinced of the effectiveness of a cable transit to improve the connection between the right and left banks of the Garonnethe elected officials of the Metropolis are determined to move up a gear in this file and have planned to launch a public consultationtwo months long, before the summer of 2022.
The challenge is not so much to measure the relevance of this project, since the metropolitan majority is already convinced of it, but rather “to inform the public of the launch of the operation, to allow them to access information relating to the project and on the other hand, to enrich the program by collecting the opinions, in particular of the inhabitants”.
To tell the truth, one can imagine that the inhabitants will have their say especially on the choice of the route among the six retained.

The six scenarios presented present an intermediate station in the Lissandre district of Cenon, along Boulevard André Ricard, on land preempted by the Métropole.
The Unesco perimeter raises questions
For the rest, a single route (in green on the map) suggests a station on the left bank at the level of the Chaban-Delmas bridge. According to estimates, it is possible to reach the Buttinière interchange in eight minutes and transport a daily average of 16,000 passengers.
This route presents a major pitfall: it falls within the Unesco perimeter and therefore requires us to deal with the resulting constraints. Not sure if a cable car is accepted here.
The other routes therefore favor a terminus at the level of the Achard tram stop, located on the edge of the eponymous street, in the Bacalan district in Bordeaux. On the right bank, on the other hand, several zones are mentioned for the terminus.
Lormont and Cenon want the terminus
We are talking about the Buttinière exchange center in Lormont (in sky blue on the map), the Rocher de Palmer in Cenon (in dark blue) and the Bordeaux right bank polyclinic (in red), located between the two places previously cities, to spare the mayors of Cenon and Lormont who are fighting over the terminus on the right bank.
To please everyone, the option of having the cable car pass through La Buttinière and Palmer is one of the likely scenarios (in blue dots on the map) even if it seems unlikely, because it would involve a considerable financial cost. higher and logistical difficulties.
On paper, the route to Palmer seems the least relevant because if it connects Bacalan in seven minutes, like the other two routes, estimates suggest an average of 11,700 travelers per day, against more than 14,500 travelers with a terminus in Lormont (Buttinière or polyclinic).
Up to 16,500 travelers per day
Finally, there is one last scenario: connecting Bacalan to the Quatre Pavillons shopping center. Admittedly, the route is longer (10 minutes) but it has several advantages on paper. Already, it is the option that offers to carry the most passengers per day (16,500). Also, he’s planning a stopover in Palmer. Finally, it could make it possible to take advantage of a park and ride other than that of Buttinière, which is often saturated.
Consultation should make it possible to see beyond the estimates. For some residents, this cable car could be a revolution in their daily lives. Positive or negative, that is the question. And they will soon have to answer it.
