Government lady Hasler exchanges ideas with intelligent minister
As member states of the Council of Europe and the European Economic Area (EEA), Liechtenstein and Ireland have been extensively networked for many years and maintain friendly relations.
The virtual working meeting between Government Minister Hasler and Minister Thomas Byrne supplemented foreign trade policy in particular. Government Councilor Hasler emphasized the importance of Liechtenstein’s close economic ties to Europe through EEA membership and to Switzerland through the customs treaty. In anticipation of the development of economic relations with the United Kingdom, Government Councilor Hasler referred to the free trade agreement successfully concluded by the EEA/EFTA states last year. The negotiations for a double taxation agreement, which have already started successfully, were also addressed.
The two ministers are also using the video conference to discuss cooperation within the Council of Europe. According to the alphabetical order, Ireland (May 2022) and Liechtenstein (November 2023) will take over the Presidency of the Council of Europe in close succession. In this context, Government Minister Hasler and Minister Byrne exchanged views on the thematic priorities and planned activities for the respective presidencies. (ikr)
