News, FHI | 18,875 new corona infections registered in Norway in the last 24 hours
In the last 24 hours, FHI has registered 18,875 corona infections in Norway. After changes in the test system, fewer cases are registered than before.
Figures from the Notification System for Infectious Diseases (MSIS) show that 7,234 fewer were registered than on the same day last week.
On 24 January 2022, FHI made major changes to the test system, so that fewer corona infections were registered in MSIS. Due to this, figures after 25 January are not comparable with the figures before.
The reorganization involves that more people no longer need to take a PCR test after having tested positive for self-testing, and thus the infection is not registered with FHI either. However, people are encouraged to register positive tests with their municipality.

FHI now uses to a greater extent other ways of monitoring the pandemic than infection rates. The main thing is to follow up on hospitalizations.
On Tuesday, 382 corona patients were hospitalized. That was 29 more than the day before. 41 of the patients are in the intensive care unit, and 23 of them receive respiratory treatment. There are five more on intensive care and two fewer on respirator compared with the day before, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s overview.
Declining infection trend
In the last seven days, an average of 18,766 corona infections have been registered per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 19,005, so the trend is declining.
A total of 1,068,686 people have now tested positive for corona in Norway, according to the National Institute of Public Health.
A total of 1,513 corona-infected people have died in Norway since March 2020, preliminary figures show.
On 22 January 2022, 24,958 infections were registered in Norway, which is the highest number of days to date with the old test system.
On 9 February 2022, 26,109 infections were registered in Norway, which is the highest number of days so far with the new test system.
