“Endoume loses its soul”, regrets a resident in the face of rising housing prices
“Endoume loses his soul”, regrets Louis Salles, 80, born in Vallon des Auffes and president of the nautical club. He has seen his neighborhood change over the years. The prices have also changed. Initially a fishing district. Today, it is one of the most popular in the city.
“Suddenly, the Parisians landed” – Monica
Moreover, the most expensive street in town is in Endoume. The square meter costs more than 6200 euros in the rue du château d’If against 5000 on average in the 7th arrondissement. “I have a daughter who went to Septèmes because the area has become too expensive and too crowded. The people who buy here all have big 4X4s”explains Monique, a Marseillaise for 38 years. “Opposite us, boulevard Tolstoy, it’s a Swede who bought. On the other side of the street it’s Belgians, not to mention the Parisians”, she continues, sad to see her neighborhood change. But Louis nuance: “these people have to be aware of where they live. It may take time, but hey, there are not only wolves, there are also deer”he quips.
A very tense market in Aix-en-Provence… because of the confinements
A little further north, in Aix-en-Provence, prices also increased in 2021. The city is even the 7th most expensive in France with an average price of 4,700 euros per square meter. “Parisians where other people from elsewhere wanted to move after the confinements, teleworking. We ended up with a lot of requests and not enough offers”notes Morgane Moreau of the 1894 agency in Aix-en-Provence. “And so prices have increased even it is stabilizing at the moment”she explains again.
“For us, the prices are interesting since in the Paris region, where we live, it is already more than 6000 euros per square meter” – Fabien, a Parisian who plans to settle in Aix-en-Provence
Consequently, the market has tightened. “It’s the obstacle course”, says Yann, a man from Aix in his twenties. He has just signed his CDI and has been looking for an apartment, in vain, since the beginning of 2022. “As soon as an interesting property comes out on the market, we immediately find ourselves with about thirty files on it. And then to buy, a T2 for example, it’s minimum 220,000 euros, see 250,000. And the bank says no , it’s not going to be possible”he finishes.
