World Day against Childhood Cancer, Arop lights up Castel Sismondo
International Childhood Cancer Day – ICCD, the World Day against Childhood Cancer, is celebrated around the world on February 15, a global moment to raise awareness among institutions and public opinion on childhood cancers and to support children and adolescents with cancer, to the healed, to families, and their caregivers. In Rimini, to celebrate and remember this theme will be Arop (Riminese Pediatric Oncohematology Association) which on 12, 13 and 15 February, from 5.30 pm to 12.00 pm, will illuminate the Malatesta Fortress in yellow and will project the ribbon on one of the towers Golden – Gold Ribbon – Universal Symbol of Childhood Cancer Fighting. A ribbon with a precious color because our children and their future are precious. Exposing it means openly acknowledging their strength, their courage, their resilience. This day promotes issues and challenges relevant to childhood cancer, to highlight the impact that the disease has on society as a whole, reiterating the need to ensure fairer access to treatment and care for all sick children and young people, everywhere in the world. The Day was established by the WHO – Health Organization and in particular the annual event, as it is celebrated today, started Worldwide by Childhood Cancer International (CCI), the global network of 176 parent associations active in 93 and 5 continents, the largest network in the world supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families. FIAGOP is one of the founding members. From 15 to 28 February, “I want you a bag of good” is proposed again, an initiative dedicated to the donation of blood and platelets at the main transfusion centers of the reference hospitals. In Italy, about 1400 children and 800 adolescents get sick with leukemia or cancer every year. The leukemic child, like the one being treated for a tumor, is at risk of infections due to lowering of white blood cells, but above all of haemorrhages due to lowering of platelets and severe anemia. Blood transfusions are then necessary, which must therefore always be available. Blood is a precious gift in the most difficult moments of oncological therapies, for this reason AROP invites you to donate regularly so that the necessary supplies are always available.
