What to do in Verona and its province during the weekend from 11 to 13 February 2022
The most romantic weekend of the year in the city of love has finally arrived. Verona is ready to celebrate the anniversary of lovers as every year with many appointments, the feast of Valentine’s Day which will also be celebrated in the province with initiatives that, last but not least, will involve pure Lake Garda. There are also many concerts, markets, shows, guided tours, cinema news, exhibitions and much more for this weekend.

THE TOP EVENT
Waiting for Verona in love
From Friday 11 to Monday 14 February 2022 “Waiting for Verona in Love” will take place, initiatives that will involve every corner of the city. For four days Verona dresses and is colored with love, with many cultural and non-cultural initiatives, dedicating itself to lovers and to the feast of Valentine’s Day. There will be many places that will come alive, the ice rink at the Arsenale as well as all the balconies of the city, thanks to the music played by the boys of the Conservatory.

Villalove
Villafranca di Verona is tinged with love to celebrate the famous Valentine’s Day with all lovers. From 11 to 14 February 2022 is scheduled “Villalove”, the Valentine’s Day in Villafranca di Verona. La Torre del Castello is ready to make all couples relive a sweet experience by opening its doors at extraordinary times, even at night, for the whole Valentine’s Day weekend.
Valentine’s Fair in Bussolengo
The San Valentino Fair returns to Bussolengo, which this year celebrates its 311 edition. The atmosphere of one of the most popular and heartfelt events in the province of Verona will brighten the town’s streets and squares from 12 to 14 February 2022. The the waiting Luna Park will entertain young and old and there will be events, shows, gastronomic specialties and cultural initiatives.
Lake Garda in Love & Friends 2022: Lungolago d’Amore
The Veronese shores of Lake Garda, and beyond, are preparing to celebrate the traditional with the feast of lovers on February 14 with a rich calendar of events. Among these, the one certainly stands out with “Lake Garda in Love & Friends 2022: Lungolago d’Amore”. On the afternoon of Saturday 12 February, the Municipalities of Valeggio sul Mincio, Castelnuovo del Garda, Lazise, Bardolino, Torri del Benaco, Malcesine and Riva del Garda will be involved. The common denominator of everything will obviously be the theme of love, and in particular the discovery of the most romantic places on the lake.
The sirens at Gardaland Sea Life Aquarium
The mermaids, mythological marine creatures that have always fascinated adults and children, will arrive at Gardaland Sea Life Aquarium for five special meetings. In the most romantic month of the year, Saturday 12 February, in view of the Valentine’s Day, a real mermaid, an emblem of charm and beauty, will arrive at Sea Life Aquarium to take a memorable photo with lovers.
“Dear Juliet” Award
The “Dear Juliet” award is conceived by the Juliet Club which for many years has kept alive the activity of receiving and replying to the letters addressed to the Shakespearean heroine. This year, in its thirtieth edition, the prize will be awarded at the Piccolo Teatro di Giulietta, with entrance from the Teatro Nuovo in Verona, on Saturday 12 February 2022.
CONCERTS
At the Philharmonic the great tribute to Beethoven
For the inauguration of the 2022 Symphonic Season, the Arena’s orchestra and choir continue the tribute to Beethoven for his 250th anniversary, whose anniversary has passed through the main symphonies and concerts. The program combines the grace and panache of Symphony No. 2 in D major to the stormy romance of Coriolano and frames the Rhapsody for alto, male choir and orchestra of the ideal heir Brahms on verses by Goethe, with Marianna Pizzolato. The young New Yorker James Feddeck, former conductor in Chicago and at the most important orchestras in Europe, also made his debut on the podium of the Philharmonic Theater.
The Italian Virtuosos in the name of Chopin
Friday 11 February appointment with the concert review of the Ristori Theater. Guests are the eclectic pianist Alessandro Taverna, internationally renowned, with I Virtuosi Italiani, one of the most active and qualified ensembles in today’s music scene. The evening’s program includes the performance of the Concert n. 1 in E minor and the Concert n. 2 in F minor in the original and precious version for piano and strings by the Polish composer and pianist Fryderyk Chopin.
The Poor Sodium live
For the first time in septet, the Poveri di Sodio, one of the most famous Cartoon Bands in Italy, return to this stage of the Cantine de l’Arena. In fact, the historic group is joined by the splendid voice of Virginia Canteri, in a nostalgic but spectacular journey through time with the most beautiful and famous cartoons and TV series of the 80s. An appointment not to be missed on Friday 11 February.
Gypsy Strike and Linda Nordio in concert
From Django Reinhardt’s music to contemporary Gypsy Jazz. Sunday evening at the Cantine de l’Arena space for Gypsy Strike for a fascinating itinerary that starts from the swing of the ’30s to reach the most modern American and European standards, revisited in a manouche key. Guest of the evening the jazz singer Linda Nordio.

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Sunday 13 February a fascinating guided tour is scheduled to Borghetto sul Mincio, undoubtedly one of the most romantic places in the province of Verona. What makes Borghetto a particularly poetic place is above all its position between the waters of the Mincio river which frames the ancient mills and fairytale houses.
THEATER
In the name of the Father
Mario Perrotta returns to the Camploy theater, Saturday 12 February at 8.45 pm, with “In the name of the Father”, a show that investigates the universe of family relationships, written with the consultancy of Massimo Recalcati. In the body of a single actor three fathers very different from each other by social extraction, geographical origin, working condition. To distinguish them the clothes, the dialect, the bodies. A conscious interweaving between private life and artistic commitment, between lost fathers and children without love.
Voices
To celebrate ten years of marriage, the couple invited their closest friends. But when the first ones arrive, they find her husband in her room in a pool of blood and no trace of his wife. At the Teatro Santa Teresa “Rumors”, a brilliant comedy by Neil Simon directed by Carlo Deprati, on Saturday 12 February with the Terzo Millennio company.
Romeo and Juliet
Saturday 12 February “Romeo & Juliet” arrives at the Satiro Off Theater. On the occasion of Valentine’s Day and right in the heart of Verona, the love story that made our city famous all over the world could not be missing.
The Wizard of Oz
Directed by Pino Costalunga, the show, freely taken from the famous opera by Baum, highlights the most “fantastic” aspect of the story and stands as a metaphor for that tortuous path that is to grow up. “The Wizard of Oz” will be staged on Sunday 13 February at the Sti Theater in Verona for the review organized in collaboration with the Municipality “Famiglie a teatro 2021/2022”.
The very short and lamentable love story of Romeo and Juliet
The Impiria Theater show “The very short and lamentable love story of Romeo and Juliet” with Massimiliano Motta, Serena Biasi and Damiano Sartori, directed by Andrea Castelletti. An original, metropolitan and smart version of the well-known story of the two Veronese lovers, with rapid changes of scene between histrionic narratives and experiences of the most famous scenes.

MONSTER
“Passions and visions” at the Gallery of Modern Art in Verona
The story of the birth of the Achille Forti Gallery of Modern Art told in a new exhibition itinerary of over 150 works. This is how the passion for art and the far-sighted vision of Ugo Zannoni, Achille Forti, Licisco Magagnato and Giorgio Cortenova, four fundamental characters for the GAM and its identity, are presented to the public in a special exhibition curated by Francesca Rossi. and Patrizia Nuzzo.
Ancient vases at the Archaeological Museum
The charm of the Etruscan bucchero on display at the Archaeological Museum at the Roman Theater. Open to the public, in the room dedicated to temporary exhibitions, the new exhibition on “Ancient vases”, curated by Margherita Bolla, which dedicates a special focus to Etruscan ceramics. One, open until 2 October 2022, a section that presents some of the most evocative pieces of the collection of pre-Roman ceramics, about eighty vases from the seventh to the fourth century BC, which make up part of the rich collection of the Archaeological Museum, not normally on display to the public.
The watercolors of Francesco Arduini in Castelvecchio
New display in the Boggian room of the Castelvecchio Museum. On display are the 60 watercolors donated this year by Francesco Arduini for the Drawings and Prints Department of the Scaligero Museum. A special exhibition, on view to the public until March 6, 2022, created on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the birth of Licisco Magagnato.

In the Minerbe library the itinerant exhibition, in the libraries of the province of Verona, which it presents, makes a stop throughout February 5 works co-signed by Lionello Fiumi and Felice Naalin: a poet who lived in the early part of the twentieth century in dialogue, at a temporal distance, with a contemporary artist. The poems written by Fiumi are in English cursive and are in enigmatic relationship with the pictorial images constructed in watercolor, gouache and pastel in a syncretic way by Felice Naalin. The exhibition includes works on easels, set between the shelves of books, so as not to interrupt the magic of libraries.
