On the eve of the PN Borg Bonello Contests Election And Becomes The Youngest Candidate In The History Of Malta
PN youth activist Eve Borg Bonello will contest the next general election, becoming the youngest candidate ever in Maltese political history.
Borg Bonello, the 18-year-old president of the teen wing TeamStart of the PN, was approved this evening as a candidate in the ninth and tenth districts.
The young politician rose to prominence in 2019 when he addressed the crowds at a protest in Valletta after Yorgen Fenech was arrested as the main suspect in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Speaking to Greta Thunberg, she accused Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of “stealing her future” and warned that he had Caruana Galizia’s blood in his hands.
She went on to describe the speech as the moment when her life changed forever.
“I used to consider a statement like that as hyperbolic a year ago, but the more time passed the more I began to believe the opposite,” she said. “Looking back, I remembered that I suddenly felt angry, proud, and scared.”
“It simply came to our notice then[amlet gang mafja ma’ pajji]and Daphne; I was very proud to see the good people of our rock get up and fight back and I was terrified when my life was threatened. ”
“Looking back, I can still feel those emotions. As I came down from the stage my parents’ arms grabbed me in a tight hug and I kept looking around me trying to process that literal change that was happening around us. I felt like I was standing on a page in a textbook. ”
In 2021, Borg Bonello was appointed chairman of the teenage wing TeamStart of the PN, where he conducted a number of plucky stunts, including outside PBS, Parliament and the Labor Party headquarters.
Now she has decided that it is time to expand her political journey by a few notches. The question is, can the Hon. Eve Borg Bonello in a few months?
Do you think Eva Borg Bonello will be a good deputy?
