Canada chose Sweden to advance to the women’s Olympic semifinals
Canada will play for a medal in women’s ice hockey at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Color, to be determined.
Brianne Jenner and Sarah Fillier scored three goals, and Marie Philip Poulin and Sarah Nurse had four assists to bring Canada to a dominant 11-0 victory against Sweden in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Games.
The win takes Canada on to a semi-final match against an opponent to be determined pending the remaining quarter-finals. Semi-final matches are rescheduled; Canada, which went perfectly through the round-robin part of the tournament, is number 1 seed.
After winning all four matches against Group A opponents, Canada won – including a 4-2 win over Team USA and a delayed 6-1 victory over the Russian Olympic Committee – to take the division’s top spot. Canada, the only team without a loss in the tournament, surpassed the opponents by 33-5 on the way to earning their date with Sweden.
That scoring skill continued at Sweden’s expense.
Jenner, who won gold in Sochi in 2014 and silver in PyeongChang 2018 with Canada, opened the scoring at 3:05 of the first period and stopped a shot along the ice by Soderberg for the lead with 1-0.

Fillier scored twice in 36 seconds late in the opening frame to extend the lead to 3-0. She snuck a one-timer from Sodeberg’s pad and in, a goal that required video review to confirm, 17:41 before she flipped a pass from Renata Fast from the Swedish netmaster and in 17:41.

Jamie Lee Rattray went down the bar on a wrist shot from the spot through the traffic with 24.1 seconds left of the opening frame to make it 4-0.
Spooner hit a return 3:16 into the second period, and Erin Ambrose went on the short side at Soderberg 1:59 later for a 6-0 edge.
Blayre Turnbull made a bank shot in 6:56, and Jenner scored on a diversion high above Soderberg’s glove in 8:13, pushing Canada forward by eight. Emily Clark added another at 9:09 to give Canada a 9-0 lead after midfield.
