PJ prevents terrorist attack at the University of Lisbon
The National Counterterrorism Unit (UNCT) carried out this Thursday “an operation aimed at complying with house search warrants, within the scope of an investigation carried out by the Violent Crime Investigation Section of the DIAP in Lisbon, the PJ informed in a statement, claiming to have stopped a terrorist attack.
The investigation was triggered by suspicions of an attack aimed at university students at the University of Lisbon, he explains.
“Given the seriousness of the suspicions, the highest priority was given to the investigation, which would allow, in the day, in the early hours of the day, to interrupt the criminal activity in progress”.
Following the searches carried out, “vast evidence would be seized, which would confirm the initial suspicions”, says the PJ.
“In addition to several prohibited weapons, other articles of prohibited use were also seized, extensive documentation used, as well as a written plan with details of the criminal action with the details of the criminal action”.
The defendant arrested in flagrante delicto for possession of the aforementioned weapons is also indicted for the crime of terrorism. This defendant, who is 18 years old, will be presented tomorrow for a first judicial interrogation for submission to the coercive measure considered appropriate, the Judiciary Police’s statement also indicates.
